Warrnambool Council Elections

About Ben Pohlner

This year Ben will be standing in theWarrnambool Council Elections.

8 years ago we moved from Cairns to Warrnambool to raise our family and I wouldn’t have it any other way.  Warrnambool was exactly what we were looking for – a small friendly city with caring country values, a university for my wife to undertake a degree,  and a family friendly environment for us to enjoy time with our kids.  I could not be happier. That’s why I’ve decided to stand in the 2016 Warrnambool council elections

I am a family man with Christian family values.  I am passionate about causes I believe in.  I am focused on enhancing the Warrnambool community.  I am ready to serve as your representative.  I am ready to serve as a Warrnambool City Councillor.

A little bit about me:

  1. I have a degree in Applied Science (Coastal Management)
  2. I am a Manager at Wannon Water;
  3. I am on the school board for St Pius X Primary School Warrnambool;
  4. I am Secretary of the Warrnambool Offshore and Light Game Fishing Club;
  5. I am a Church Elder in the Trinity Lutheran Church Warrnambool.
  6. I run a small consulting business;
  7. I am heavily involved in many community events – mainly environment or sustainability focused.
  8. I also organise the annual Shipwreck Coast Fishing Classic and Sustainable Fishing Exhibit.

Prior to Warrnambool I worked for 12 years as an Environmental and Development Consultant writing Environmental Impact Assessments and gaining approvals, licences and permits for all types of developments.  For 7 of these years I owned my own consulting firm with offices in both Brisbane and Cairns.

I am running for a position as Warrnambool City Councillor as I have particular passions around    Youth and Education ,  Warrnambool HarbourSustainability, and  Enhancing our Community.

My Pledges To You

My pledge is to the youth of Warrnambool.  I have children.  I therefore have a vested interest.

I will advocate passionately for youth issues including:

  • Youth services
  • Education
  • Improved councelling resources
  • Mental health
  • Youth inclusion

I will actively be pursuing the best possible outcome for a safe boat launching facility at Warrnambool.

I pledge to ensure recreational fishing values are protected in the rivers, estuaries, beaches, harbours, and oceans around our magnificent city.

I want the best possible future for our kids – and I am sure you want the same.  I love to see our Council embracing sustainability and utilising resources in a sustainable manner. I am keen for residents to also understand and appreciate the impact we have on this planet.  I will be embracing sustainability wherever possible, and encouraging others to do the same.

I am committed to working with the Council to enhance our local community for the benefit of all.  I am committed to assisting the volunteering section of the community by prioritising the provision of additional resources and training.   I believe the rejuvenation of existing sporting facilties (primarily Reid Oval) and the incorporation of additional sporting ovals around Warrnambool is a priority.

I am committed to ensuring the Shipwreck Coast Master Plan positions Warrnambool as a prime tourist town into the future.
